Why Original Teams?

The MFL was built around the idea that a community-driven fantasy league deserves its own identity. Drafting from a roster of original franchises changes the texture of the game completely. There are no preconceptions — you do not "know" the Boston Colonials' roster the way you know a real-world team. Every season starts as a discovery exercise. Breakouts feel earned. Player careers feel like genuine arcs rather than continuations of outside narratives.

It also lets the league evolve in ways a real-world sports league cannot. Coaches change schemes, rosters get rebuilt, teams rise and fall, and the storylines are entirely the league's own. Long-term participants can track the Stealers' multi-season dynasty or the Bulldawgs' rebuilding cycle the same way historical franchises get followed across eras.
